| Born
in Havana, Cuba, Thomas Fundora graduated from Escuelas Tur and Candler College.
He also studied at Escuala San Alejandro in Cuba and attended special courses
in art restoration at the School of Art in Bologne, Italy. He received additional
training at Washington School of Art and Art Students League. While living in New York, Fundora served as President of the Association of Latin American Painters and restorer of the artworks of Mama Leone's Restaurant and conducted classes in painting, sculpture and worked in restoration. In 1965, his famous work, "El Cristo de Espaldas", (The Back of Christ), was exhibited in the new York World's Fair, hanging next to works by Picasso and Dali. Although his subject matter is all inclusive, he has been dubbed "The Painter of Caves", having completed over 450 paintings of caves. It is said of his work, "Fundora creates the illusion that the viewer is part of the painting. His technique is sharp and full of life. One feels the bristles of his brushes each carry a ray of sun". As the popularity of his work increased in the Miami and Keys area, Fundora moved his studio to Key Largo in 1993. His paintings of sunsets, dawns and landscapes of the Florida Keys have established him as one of the top artists in the area. His studio faces Florida Bay, influencing the miracle of very impressive art creations.
