"...It is a matter of making something...moving or dramatic..." -F.Leger - I face the blank canvas, sometimes boldly, sometimes with trepidation, making a mark, a slab, a line or dash of color which begins the dialogue between me and the surface. My strokes may begin impulsively but it is in the process of refinement that I discover my path into and out of a piece. Scumbling, layering, repetitive patterning; all are a part of my current work - the dark behind the light, the light behind the dark, the evidence of things unseen at first glance...I tend to move across the canvas in a most physical way, rarely sitting, in this way I am inspired by Pollock and his aerobic way of painting.
