Karen Carasik is a mixed media artist, painter, sculptor and papermaker. After 30 years in Chicago she moved to Central Florida in 1993. She has an analytical expressionistic style that communicates issues of the human condition. Carasik’s paintings encourage visual literacy and result in the viewers exploration of their own personal connection to the work. Content driven and organic forms are both revealed and concealed amidst layers of meaning and acrylic paint. The often water color like streaked and stained surfaces of the canvas are accented by textural applications. Her paintings reflect her thoughts on issues and controversy. Carasik’s intriguing titles reveal an analytical component to the otherwise evocative emotion the viewer experiences. Her expressionistic style also invites viewers of any language to bring in his/her own associations. She received grants and awards for her series “A Journey to Where….The Refugee Experience”. She has had residencies at the Art Institute of Chicago’s Oxbow. Her art studio is at COMMA in Orlando. She is the National South Eastern Vice President of Women’s Caucus for Art. - Karen Carasik
