| I
have always appreciated my natural surroundings more than those made by man. Having
been born and raised in south Tampa, I have drawn inspiration from natural settings
that typify Florida and the endangered wilderness. Having also lived in Naples,
FL and west Tennessee has given me a different influence of these diverse locales. I often use photography to capture composition or an aspect of it. My work is not limited to scenery, however. While I work primarily in oil, acrylic and mixed media, my subjects may vary from inanimate objects (such as an old car in a field) to wildlife or even a female subject in a contrived setting. Sometimes my renderings will convey a social or cultural statement for the viewer to discern but this is rare. In my endeavor I am not on a crusade but rather a mission to produce work that pleases the soul of this artist. I consider myself somewhere between an illustrator and a contemporary realist. I have no real style but I do prefer certain techniques in my work; alterations that produce unique results. I generally seek out the medium that best suits the work and if I have the liberty, a medium that compliments my mood at the time. As a visual artist, I see the world not only as it is, but as it could be. – Dana M. Groff, Jr. |
