| I believe in working on a series and am motivated by the shapes, forms, lines and marks found in nature, structures, or visualized through music. I have begun a cruciform series that will be exhibited in a special show in the Spring of 2010 in The Harris Gallery of the Daytona Beach Art League. This series of paintings was “born” in the studio where I paint in New Smyrna Beach, over the past year. Searching for inspiration, this compositional format provides great “bones” for some fantastic colors, marks and shapes. Several works from other series have been exhibited at The Orlando Museum of Art during First Thursday events. My nonrepresentational works have led to my selection as Featured Artist of the Month for OMA’s Museum Shop Gallery, which opens on April 2, 2009. My work appears in galleries and shows throughout Florida and the southeast. I often employ multiple media when I create my work. I generally use acrylics or oils and cold wax as my base and blend pastels, oils, chalk, inks, papers, gels, found objects and other items into the work until I achieve the desired result. Other times, I use only acrylics. I enjoy asserting, obliterating, pushing paint around my surface, working rapidly and in sync with music and my pantry of feelings or sights. I work dancing into my work surface, pots of paint surrounding me and with both hands loaded with the brushes or drawing tools that I chose to use. Most of my brushes are large and have long handles. I am fascinated and entranced by color and blend whimsical shapes into work. My objective throughout is to capture movement or emotion, allowing myself to be influenced by music, and to simply play and enjoy every step of this journey. Patricia Zalisko |
